For a long time Al and I have been drawn to the Belted Galloways. We would spot them in our many travels and often discuss the aspects of the breed. In 2006 we decided to start with a small herd.

We contacted some of the best leaders in the Belted Galloway Society here in the Great Lakes area. With their help we picked out a few good proven registered cows along with their calves.

We greatfully appreciate the time and patience that Bob & Lyndall Mack have extended to us.

Lyndall's homemade pies are the best!

Heifer calf 2009

2009 Learning & Exhibits

As long as I can remember, I've always wanted to try to show cattle. The Great Lakes Belted Galloway Association presented it's first cattle fitting camp. Who says camp is for kids?!!! It was held in June . I can't believe what I all learned in a couple of short days!

At least I had an idea of what should be done and how it should look. It is an art! I was able to better fit my heifer for the Wisconsin Farm Technology Days July.

Joyce and Vic Eggleston did all the set up and take down of the new Beltie Booth. All I had to do is bring in my heifer. The crowd was very good. There are many people out there who love Belties too!

Thanks Vic and Joyce!!!

Halter Breaking a Heifer-not as easy as those 4H'ers make it look!! Secret is, break them when they are weaned. Getting a 800 lbs heifer to comply with your wishes is somewhat difficult sometimes! Al took several 'free' rides with her before he'd let me on the lead strap! I used a bale wagon and our Kubota to pull her around the farm field. EVERYDAY!!

We would like to work on a marketing plan for our beef product at a local level.

A very necessary part of herd maintenance,

hoof trimming.

Do not lose sight of the purpose for raising beef.

'Naturelle' 2009

Nice job showing Ryan Fogel!

A very BIG thank you to Fogel's for selling us this outstanding heifer calf.

Ozaukee Co. Fair, Wisconsin 2009

Arbor Winds Belle.

I fit my heifer myself! This was only possible because to the 'camp' attended in June!

This was the first Beltie to ever show at the fair. My heifer was the only Beltie. The judge had some very nice comments to make to the spectators. Belle had lots of visitors back at the stall.

Too bad the cattle housing facilities are so crowded.

Goals for 2010

Successful calving season!

Summary of 2009

The goals for 2009 have been achieved!

Showing was so much better this year. I participated at the Blo and Go, Ozaukee Co. Fair, & Wis.Farm Tech Days. I started another calf, Belle. We attended the World Beef Expo as spectators and to our surprise we kinda attended the big sale at Louisville! Via the internet we bought a heifer. She hitched a ride back to Wisconsin with Mark Keller and Dr. Vic Eggleston. Thanks guys!

We tried AI on 3 of our heifers. This is a first attempt and with the help of Select Sires technician Dave Kahn, we have 2 heifers bred.

We finished 2 steers for market. We could have had 2 more for customers!

This is so much fun I should've started 20 years ago

When I'm not wrestling cattle, I do a fair amount of watercolor artwork. Of course most of my subject matter rotates around the farm.

I have three recent artworks that feature the Belted Galloways in the Spring, Summer and in The Winter Lane.
